Sacred Heart School Westport

History

History

Sacred Heart School Westport (SHS) was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1925 to provide a Christian education inspired by the vision of Catherine McAuley for the young women of the town and the surrounding area. The school has been a vital part of Westport for almost 100 years, constantly enriched by its interactions with the local community. SHS served as both a boarding and day school until 1970. In 2007, the trusteeship of the school was passed to CEIST (Catholic Education and Irish Schools Trust).

As we approach this significant milestone, we are planning a series of celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of Sacred Heart School to honour our rich heritage and commitment to education.

In February 2022, SHS was officially granted a new build, and work is ongoing to finalise the design of this exciting new development.
